UN AVERTISSEMENT DE CYCLONE CLASSE 2 EST EN VIGUEUR À MAURICE

Freddy: A cyclone warning Class 2 is in force in Mauritius. Vacoas Met office has enforced a cyclone warning Class 2 for Mauritius at 1010hrs today.Observations from the Met Office have ascertained that Freddy has grown stronger overnight and is now a very intense tropical cyclone.

It maintains its trajectory towards the west-southwest and is approaching Mauritius. Freddy’s estimated gusts near its centre are about 320 km/h.At 1000 hrs, the very intense tropical cyclone was situated at about 950 km to the east-north-east of Mauritius, near latitude 16.8 degrees south and longitude 65.9 degrees east.

It is moving in a west-south-westerly direction at a speed of about 22 km/h. On this trajectory, Freddy continues to approach our region and represents a potential threat to Mauritius. The public is advised to complete all preliminary precautions.Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate in the afternoon tomorrow, Monday 20, with intermittent rain with gusts of 100km/h.

Seas will become very rough to high, with heavy swells tomorrow morning.
